Wax: We Are The X
Year: 2015
Genre: NEW RELEASES
Rating: (7.2)
Runtime: 103 min.
Director: Lorenzo Corvino
Cast: Gwendolyn Gourvenec / Davide Paganini / Jacopo Maria Bicocchi / Rutger Hauer / Jean-Marc Barr / Andrea Renzi / Lily Bloom / Claudia Gallo / Andrea Sartoretti / Muriel Gandois / Mathieu Intikalau / Francesca Ritrovato
Plot:
A mysterious video falls into the hands of a troupe of reporters following an accident involving three thirty-something year olds – two men and a woman. The video chronicles the lives of the trio one week prior, during their road-trip through the French Riviera to shoot a commercial. Shot in the style of found footage – sometimes with an iPhone – this innovative film touts itself as the first “selfie” movie. But, this isn’t a cheeky jab at today’s culture of obsessive self-documentation. Director Lorenzo Corvino’s debut film was born out of a desire to capture the spirit and frustrations of Generation X, the post baby boomers who inherited the economic crisis of the prior generation and who now struggle to compete with the increasingly tech-savvy younger generations. - Vivian Yuen

L'uomo in più
Year: 2001
Genre: Drama / Comedy
Rating: (7.3)
Country: Italy
Runtime: 100 min.
Director: Paolo Sorrentino
Cast: Toni Servillo / Andrea Renzi / Nello Mascia / Angela Goodwin / Antonino Bruschetta
Plot:
The debut feature by acclaimed Italian director Paolo Sorrentino (Il Divo) is a stylish and blackly comic look at the dark side of fame. Evocatively set during the eighties, the film charts the decline of two men both named Antonio Pisapia who lead entirely separate yet strangely parallel lives. One (Toni Servillo, Gomorrah) is a pop singer who finds himself washed up after a sex scandal ends his run of success; the other (Andrea Renzi) a football hero whose playing career is abruptly cut short by injury. Sharply observed and featuring excellent performances from the two leads, Sorrentino's compelling film explores the personal consequences wrought by cruel reversals of fortune. (iTunes)
